~ Castello del Terriccio gazes out upon the Meditteranean ~

Last January,  I detailed the wonderful estate of Castello del Terriccio in an extensive feature article.  After being so impressed with their Super Tuscan blend Tassinaia,  I quickly added some bottles to my cellar.

Over the past week,  I couldn’t resist to check in on this beauty and I’m very pleased to see where this is heading.

The 2006 Tassinaia is a deep violet color throughout. The nose is perfumed and complex with abundant  notes of crushed berries and plums, tobacco, menthol, black licorice and roasted cocoa. On the palate the wine is massive and some of the tannins have shed slightly since last year. This is ripe and very fleshy in texture. The core of black fruits is accented by savory herbs, mint, ground coffee and warmed terracotta. This is powerful and very elegant. Stunning and a great value. 95 points.  About $40.  Stock up!

~ Created in 1994, Tassinaia is one of the few Super Tuscans to feature Sangiovese grown in Bolgheri.  The blend is typically 34% Sangiovese, 33% Merlot and 33% Cabernet.  Carlo Ferrini is the Consultanting Winemaker ~
