After returning from the gym, the comfort of a roasting chicken called for an elegant bottle of vino. This one, nicely fits the bill. The 2007 Truchard Carneros Syrah is a classy, cool climate, version of the varietal.
It was not decanted, but there is a heavy crust forming on the bottle. The color is dark purple, but what appears at first glance to be a bruising wine is more elegant in the mouth. Flavors of berry, crushed stones, and a slight herbal undertone – though not green and offputting at all, round out the flavor profile of the wine. It’s all balance throughout the long finish. The nose displays none of the 14% alcohol but lifts flowers, crushed fruit, and minerals from the glass. Paired really well with the chicken, alongside cauliflower roasted with parsley, cheese, garlic and breadcrumbs. 90 Points and a tremendous value at just about $17.

Sounds delicious. Glad to hear it's still a good wine. I used to drink a lot of this back in the 96-97-98 vintages. But it was a lot more expensive back then. IIRC, it was retailing for $25-30 in Austin at the time.
John, hi Bill, back in Nov. 2010 I had this review of the 2007 Truchard Syrah:

It would appear that (for this wine) John and I are on a similar page, though John's review is so much more elegant than mine, but I'm learning.
Dennis, I've had this wine now across a few vintages and it's been remarkably consistent. It can't be beaten for the price.
